NATIONAL, OborDewata.com – Buk Putih Road in Sumbersuko Hamlet, Kesilir Village, Siliragung District, Banyuwangi, has taken another life.

The tragedy did not end there. The victim, who was riding an unregistered motorcycle, was carrying an 11-year-old passenger, identified as AWM.

As a result of this single-vehicle accident, the unfortunate child suffered severe injuries and remains unconscious in the hospital.

Head of the Traffic Law Enforcement Unit (Kanit Gakkum) of the Banyuwangi Police, Police Lieutenant Second Class (Ipda) Pepri Alfiyan, revealed that the victim’s motorcycle was traveling from east to west at a relatively high speed.

Upon arriving at the scene, which is a relatively straight stretch of road, the vehicle suddenly veered to the left. It is strongly suspected that the rider lost control of the vehicle, causing the motorcycle to run off the shoulder of the road and hit a tree with tremendous force, throwing both victims several meters onto the asphalt.

CPP suffered severe head injuries and passed away at the Bangorejo Health Center (Puskesmas).

Tragically, this string of road accidents in Banyuwangi seems endless. Just two days prior, on Saturday night (June 27), a similar fatal accident claimed the life of 15-year-old EKA on the Main Road of Kradenan Village, Purwoharjo District, after a failed overtaking maneuver.

This deadly phenomenon serves as a harsh wake-up call for the public. How much longer must the lives of underage children be lost on the streets due to negligence?

This case stands as a severe warning to parents who readily hand over motorcycle keys to underage children who do not yet possess a driver’s license. Life should never be gambled for the sake of convenience.

Currently, the Law Enforcement Unit of the Banyuwangi Police Traffic Corps is still handling the case and has conducted a crime scene investigation at the location. mei/sha
