Italy Becomes the Most Preferred Destination for Migrant Workers from Bali

DENPASAR, OborDewata.com – The Bali Provincial Manpower Office (Disnaker) has recorded the number of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) from Bali working abroad. Acting Head of the Division for Job Opportunities Expansion and Transmigration, I Ketut Yudiana, reported that the majority of Indonesian migrant workers from Bali are employed in Italy, totaling 2,874 people. Other destinations include Turkey with 1,914 workers, Poland with 300, Japan with 701, and Russia with 395.

 

“In 2022, 9,771 migrant workers from Bali were recorded, 10,087 in 2023, and 6,499 as of September 2024,” Yudiana stated on Thursday (December 5, 2024).

 

According to data from the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) website, there is a report on the placement and protection of Indonesian migrant workers for the January-September 2024 period. Key points from the report include: Placement data as of September 2024 shows a decrease of 17.05% (5,730 placements), dropping from 24,636 in September 2023 to 20,436 in September 2024.

 

Informal placements dominated the total, accounting for 59.71% of all placements in September 2024. The total number of Indonesian migrant worker placements in September 2024 reached 20,436, with 86.62% (17,702) concentrated in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Japan, and Singapore.

 

Complaint data for September 2024 also saw a decline, dropping by 56 cases (from 190 to 134 complaints) or 29.47% compared to September 2023. Complaints in March 2024 totaled 134, with the majority originating from Taiwan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Cambodia, and the United Arab Emirates.

 

Complaints from these five countries accounted for 104 cases or 77.62% of the total. West Java Province reported the highest number of complaints from Indonesian migrant workers, with 45 cases—an increase of 33.58% compared to the previous month’s 42 cases. The most common issue was failed departures, which saw an increase of 16 cases. ri/nda/sathya
