DENPASAR, OborDewata.com – Domestic flight ticket prices have dropped by 10% for the 2025 Christmas and New Year (Nataru) period. The price reduction of IDR 157,000 will be implemented at 19 airports across Indonesia, including I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali.

In response to this, the Chairman of the Bali Province DPD ASITA, I Putu Winastra, expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts to lower ticket prices. “We hope that this price reduction is not just limited to the end-of-year events because the price of tickets is a key component of travel packages. If tickets are too expensive, people will be reluctant to come,” he explained on Wednesday (Dec 4, 2024).

He also noted that most tourists typically travel with family, such as with their spouse or children. Naturally, if flight prices are high, it will affect the budget for their holiday plans. Putu Winastra further explained that the IDR 157,000 ticket reduction might not be applicable to all airlines. There will likely be specific conditions based on the departure and destination locations, as well as the percentage of the discount. He added that even with the price reduction, tourists may prefer other travel options. For example, in Java, many tourists opt to travel between destinations by private cars, which is much cheaper. “This should be taken into consideration by the government to ensure airports are fully prepared,” he continued.

He also emphasized that price adjustments should be made carefully, as tourism competition is not only domestic but also international. “For example, traveling to Malaysia can be cheaper than going to Sumatra. This creates an irony. Therefore, this reduction may not have a significant positive impact if a ticket priced at IDR 1 million only saves IDR 150,000. It’s not ideal. The impact depends on other components included in the ticket. This price reduction should not be just temporary but should be implemented gradually so that the government’s targets for 2025 can be achieved,” he concluded. ri/nda/sathya
