JAKARTA, OborDewata.com – Bali Governor, Wayan Koster met the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Ir. Wahyu Sakti Trenggono, in late September 2025 in Jakarta. The meeting focused on accelerating the development of the Nusantara Fishing Port (Pelabuhan Perikanan Nusantara – PPN) in Pengambengan Village, Jembrana, Bali. The two officials, both alumni of the Bandung Institute of Technology (Institut Teknologi Bandung – ITB) class of 1981, have committed to jointly overseeing the IDR 1.2 trillion project.
In their discussion, Minister Trenggono and Governor Koster agreed on the immense potential of Bali’s marine and fisheries sector, emphasizing the need for sound management. This, they noted, is crucial for boosting the regional economy, income, and the welfare of communities in Jembrana and across the Island of the Gods.
Minister Trenggono confirmed that the IDR 1.2 trillion project is in the final stages of preparation. The tender process has concluded, and the winning contractor has been appointed. Construction is slated to begin in December 2025, with a target completion date of late 2026.
The Minister expressed his hope for Governor Koster’s full support to ensure the strategic project proceeds smoothly as planned. In response, Koster affirmed his commitment, stating the development is ultimately for the well-being of the Balinese people, particularly those in Jembrana.
“This fishing port is vital for Bali, as it will empower the highly potential marine and fishery resources of the region. It will, in turn, enhance the local economy and increase the income and welfare of residents in Jembrana and other regencies in Bali,” the two-term Bali Governor stated on Thursday, October 2, 2025, in Denpasar.
Besides increasing the competitiveness of the fisheries sector, the development is also expected to accelerate the equitable distribution of economic growth in West Bali, which has been relatively underdeveloped.
The meeting between Koster and Trenggono was described as cordial. The two officials share a close relationship dating back to their time as students at ITB in 1981. Their communication and coordination on Bali’s development were notably smooth, with both leaders demonstrating mutual support for sustainable development in Bali. mas/pril
