DENPASAR, OborDewata.com – A dramatic maritime rescue operation unfolded in the waters south of Bali on Saturday morning, October 11, 2025.
A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team from Denpasar conducted a medical evacuation (medevac) of a crew member aboard the vessel MV Asahi Bulker who was suffering from a serious gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
The vessel’s captain contacted the agent, PT Bayu Samudra, around 2:00 AM Central Indonesia Time (Waktu Indonesia Tengah – WITA), requesting urgent medical assistance. Following coordination, a rendezvous point was established at the coordinates (8°45’45.62″S – 115°14’14.03″E).
The Denpasar Search and Rescue Office (Badan Nasional Pencarian dan Pertolongan – Basarnas) received the report at 7:00 AM Central Indonesia Time. The victim was identified as Liu Shao Hua, a 38-year-old national of the People’s Republic of China.
“Seven of our personnel immediately departed from Benoa Port using RIB 05 Denpasar toward the target position,” explained Nyoman Darmayasa, Field Coordinator for the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, in a written statement released in Denpasar on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Darmayasa reported that despite sea conditions featuring waves up to three meters high and a current of 0.8 knots, the team successfully reached the location in 21 minutes.
“The evacuation process proceeded smoothly, and the patient arrived at Benoa Port at 9:25 AM Central Indonesia Time,” Darmayasa added.
The crewman was then transferred by an ambulance from Nusa Medica Clinic to Siloam Hospital Kuta for further medical treatment.
The rescue operation involved numerous agencies, including Basarnas Denpasar, the Harbormaster and Main Port Authority Office (Kantor Kesyahbandaran dan Otoritas Pelabuhan Utama – KSOP) of Benoa, the Navigation District Office (Distrik Navigasi – Disnav) of Benoa, the Indonesian Navy (Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Laut – TNI AL), Benoa Immigration, the Benoa Health Quarantine Center, the Bali Regional Police’s Water and Air Unit (Direktorat Kepolisian Perairan dan Udara Polisi Daerah Bali – Ditpolairud Polda Bali), the Benoa Sectoral Police, the Ship Agent, and Nusa Medica Clinic.
